This research deals with phase change analysis on the whole vertical ice-on-coil type latent thermal energy storage (LTES) tank using the new method introduced by our research group. Considering the fact that there are dozens of coils for each pass in the tank, it is almost impossible to simulate the entire system due to limitation of computer memory and time load. To overcome this difficulties, the results of all the coils to be calculated are interpolated between the imaginary sample coils the number of which is much less than the original coil number. Eventually, the run time required to simulate the whole system gets reduced while having high accuracy. We call this new proposed method sample and interpolation (SI) method. The validation of SI method is conducted by comparing the results with another numerical method where all of the coils in each pass are solved in a row. Deviation of the two results are within the valid range, which indicates SI method is appropriate for phase change simulation of the whole vertical ice-on-coil type LTES tank.
