This study aims to elucidate the influence of emotional intelligence on interpersonal competence and empirically analyze the mediating effects of self-efficacy, psychological well-being, and resilience in this relationship, thereby enhancing the understanding of interpersonal relationships in the digital age. In modern society, emotional intelligence is receiving attention as a major factor in determining the quality of interpersonal relationships, and the purpose of this study is to establish practical measures to improve interpersonal competence by examining it in relation to psychological factors. This study established a research hypothesis that emotional intelligence would not only have a direct influence on interpersonal competence, but also have an indirect influence through psychological factors such as self-efficacy, psychological well-being, and resilience. The subjects of the study were selected as young adults in their 10s to 30s living in the digital age in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, and data was collected through a survey. The questionnaire consisted of questions related to emotional intelligence, interpersonal competence, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, and resilience, and a total of 312 questionnaires were used in the final analysis. In this study, data analysis was performed using SPSS 24.0 and SmartPLS 4.0 programs. The analysis process began with normality verification, and the validity of the measurement model was evaluated through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, reliability analysis was conducted to confirm the internal consistency of each variable, and the relationship between variables was analyzed through measurement model verification and structural model verification. Finally, the significance of the hypothesized path set in the study and the appropriateness of the model were verified to derive the validity of the research results. The results of the analysis showed that emotional intelligence had a positive effect on interpersonal competence. In addition, self-efficacy showed a positive mediating effect in the path between emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence, and psychological well-being also showed a positive mediating effect in the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence. Finally, resilience showed a positive mediating effect in the effect of emotional intelligence on interpersonal competence. This study empirically verified the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence through the mediating effect of psychological factors, thereby expanding the theoretical basis of emotional intelligence research. In particular, self-efficacy was confirmed to be an important factor in enhancing interpersonal competence by improving individuals’ ability to trust their own abilities and adapt to stressful situations. In addition, it was empirically verified that resilience psychological well-being acts as a key factor in improving the quality of interpersonal relationships by increasing overall happiness and satisfaction in the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence. This study emphasizes the need for a strategic approach to strengthen the psychological factors of emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, and resilience in order to improve the interpersonal competence of the generation living in the digital age. Therefore, the results of this study provided theoretical and practical contributions by empirically confirming that emotional intelligence plays an important role in the interaction between interpersonal competence and psychological factors. In particular, considering the characteristics of the digital age, it suggests that a strategic approach to strengthening psychological factors related to emotional intelligence can not only support the psychological stability and social adaptation of individuals, but also contribute to cooperation and improved performance within organizations. This study is expected to contribute to laying the foundation for individuals and organizations to continuously grow and develop in a changing environment by proposing specific psychological intervention methods for improving interpersonal competence.
