This survey is initiated to provide average monthly earnings of production worker in manufacturing in major local industrial park and is designed to estimate average monthly earnings of employees by kind of business and size of scale, by level of education, age, sex, duration of service, and to estimate other ancillarly data related to wages.
Total average monthly wages of production worker employed in local industrial park is 40.520 won. Inchon industrial park at 104.63, and Taegu industrial park, at 104.13, enjoyed higher than other industrial park. Chunchon industrial park had a wage level of only 95.16%. Wage levels by industrial park are highly associated with regional economic development.
Average wage varies considerably by industrial group. Breaking down manufacturing into major groups, there also can be seen a wide range of wage levels. With the average earnings of all industries equal to 100.00, the 8th part, (fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment) at 124.75, enjoyed the highest level, while the 2nd part(texile, wearing apparels and leather) stood at 80.97. Generally, the more capital intensive or large scale the industry is, the higher is the wage level.
Average monthly wages differ widely by the size of scale. Large scale of industry pays higher average wages than small ones does, irrespective of the industrial group. The largest scale industrial group, i.e. 500 employees or more, has the highest wage level, 142.62, while 10-29 employees are 112.11. However, average monthly wage level by size of scale revealed the balanced level between industrial park.
In order to understand the wage structure, it is also very important to compare with the wage level by such individual characteristics as age, sex, school career and duration of service. Comparing wage levels by the completed level of education, college or university graduates enjoy a wage level of 253.63, high school graduates 135.10 and middle school graduates 113.12 with primary school wage level as base.
The most outstanding wage difference is seen by sex. With the average earnings of male worker equal to 100.0, primary school graduated female worker enjoy a wage level of 70.10%, middle school graduates 72.41%, high school graduates 70.97% and college and university graduates 60.23%. The higher the level of education is, the wider is the gap in wages by sex.
Although wage levels increased along with age, the increasing patterns are quite different according to the sex and type of worker. The wage level of male workers as a whole has a fairly positive correlation to age. However, in the case of production worker, the wage level is highly reached at the age of 35-44 and thereafter is tend to decrease. The wage level for female workers is highly reached in the 25-34 age group for female production workers and thereafter is also tend to decrease.
With the average wage of male production workers under 16 age equal to 100.0, female worker under 16 age group enjoyed at 98.6%, 20-24 age group at 75.5%, 25-34 age group at 51.7%, and 35-44 age group stood at 44.4%.
Wage levels are increased along with duration of service. The wage level of male worker as a whole has a fairly positive correlation to duration of service. However, in the case of female worker above 10 years duration of service, wage level is outstandingly decreased. The gap in wages by sex is much wider than by other characteristics.
