Due to the rapid development of the technology, human beings need systematic ability which takes advantage of the technology. In order to have these skills, technical education is needed that relate knowledge configurationally and comprehensively. Mathematics and technology have a deep connection in contents, and to make students achieve the aims in technology, mathematical knowledge should be related in teaching technology. However related both subjects, the order of each subject course is different in the curriculum, which makes much difficulty in teaching the subjects. Therefore, in this research, I would study the relationship between technology and mathematics and the specific difficulty teachers feel in teaching the subject in terms of applying mathematical aspects in technology class. By doing so, I try to find the opportunity to boost the effects of teaching technology class.
I annalize the relationship between the technology subject and mathematics in terms of context and teachers understanding focused on 2007 revised national curriculum.
Conclusion that is gotten from this research is as follows. First, mathematics and technology subjects have a strong relationship with each other in middle school. Especially, the strongly related part in technology class is the whole contents of the electric machine technology in the third grade and manufacture technology nuit's measuring device and construction, ratio of measure in the second grade, and the mathematics area that has a strong connection and needed to understand the technology subject is number and arithmetic and character, expression, and geometry follow the next. Second, as a result of comparing the classwork process of the two subjects in the 2007 revised national curriculum, most of the technology class does not have any problem to follow the class because of the pre-learning in math class while there are a lot of difficulties as waveform of interchange makes the difficulties because concept of nature, sine law, law of cosines(first year mathematics in high school), vector(higher mathematics, geometry and vector) of trigonometric functions does do not become virtue studying in the concept(third year mathematics in middle school) about square root and irrational number that is mathematical contents published in size of drafting paper and kind of electricity, which is dealt with the utilization part in mathematics. Third, most technology teachers feel that mathematics and technology have a strong relationship in contents. Moreover, number and arithmetic operation, character and way, geometry part in mathematics are related in technology class according to the teachers. Fourth, many students feel that mathematics and technology have a strong relationship in contents. They believe the high score of mathematics is helpful to learning technology subject, and actually the teaching which deals with mathematical parts such as problem resolution, solving problems, calculating, and applying the rules is strongly needed to teach as they already know the rules and concepts. Fifth, the effective teaching method for coordinated math and technology class is "bringing reference books as technology teachers have classes" and "reordering the process of teaching."
Offer of this research is as follows. It is needed to teach the related parts of the both subject by relating the knowledge and extending the structure of the comprehensive structure of the way of thinking. Furthermore, the STEM(Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) based program which coordinates science․technology․engineering․mathematics is required. Moreover, this research studied focused on middle school curriculum, hopefully, however, the following study which based on the 2009 revised national curriculum on the both subject is going to be researched in the nearest future.
