진오귀 굿 현재성의 사회학적 의미 = 행위의 창조적 재구성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 한국 사회의 무속의례(巫俗儀禮)행위인 ‘진오귀 굿’의 사회학적 의미를 연구자의 상담사례를 통해 분석한다. 진오귀 굿은 굿의 의뢰자와 망자 간의 화해와 소통의 시공간을 창출함으로써, 죽음에 따른 사회적 관계의 상실과 와해를 재구성된 상생관계로 복원하고 통합하는 과정이다. 여기에는 유족과 지인들이 예기치 않은 죽음으로 인해 초래된 사회심리적 불안과 단절을 해소하고 일상의 삶으로 복귀하려는 사회적 삶의 에너지가 작동한다.
먼저 진오귀 굿의 현재성에 주목할 필요가 있다. 진오귀 굿은 생물학적 죽음으로 인해 유족과 단절된 망자를 불러들여 ‘지금 여기에’ 위치시킨다. 전통의 현재성은 진오귀 굿의 토대를 이루는 무속문화의 전통이 과거의 잔재가 아니라 현재 한국인의 원형적(archetypical) 사고방식이 사회문화적으로 공유된 문맥을 형성하고 있다는 점과도 맞닿아 있다.
다음으로 진오귀 굿의 연행과정은 동시성과 교호성을 띤다. 진오귀 굿은 미리 인식된 목적에 따른 수단으로서의 행위가 지향되는 서구 근대의 이분법적인 인식론과 비가역적 시간관으로 파악될 수 없다. 이 연행은 참가자들의 소통행위가 진행됨과 동시에 연행의 목적이 형성된다는 점에서 동시적이고 교호적인 과정이다.
마지막으로 무엇보다 진오귀 굿은 사회적 실재를 창조적ㆍ능동적으로 구성하는 행위이다. 진오귀 굿 참가자들은 죽음과 같은 비가역적인 사실의 의미를 망자낙지천도(亡者樂地薦度)라는 가시화된 연행행위를 통해 재구성하는 과정이다. 진오귀 굿에서의 능동적인 의사소통행위는 망자와 산자간의 관계를 재생과 화해를 지향하는 변화가능성의 공간으로 이끌어낸다. 이러한 과정은 서로가 ‘돌아가야 할’ 곳으로 ‘돌아가’는 상생의 과정이 통일적으로 이루어지는 사회적 실재의 창조적 재구성의 행위영역이라는 점을 상담사례를 통해 분석한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper analyzes the sociological meaning of Ginogui-Gut, which is a shamanist ritual, on the basis of the interviews with ritual participants. (All Interviewees are researcher's clients.) The feeling of loss and the social relationships broken up by someone's death are healed and recovered in the process of Ginogui-Gut performance, while the performance creates time and space of reconciliation and communication. Ginogui-Gut allows the family members and friends of the dead to remove the socio-psychological anxieties caused by the unanticipated death and to get back to their everyday lives.
First, Ginogui-Gut performance is characterized by "simultaneity" and "reciprocity". The performance cannot be understood by the dualistic thought of Western modernism and its irreversible idea of time in which action as means is subordinate to pre-recognized objectives. However, Ginogui-Gut is a simultaneous and reciprocal process between objective and means in that the objective of the performance is created at the same time when the performance itself is going on.
Secondly, we need to focus on "being present" of Ginogui-Gut. "Here and now" does the performance call and situate the dead which seems to already have been isolated from "here and now" by biological death. This "being present" is closely related with "being present" of shamanist tradition in Korea which has been embedded for a long time in social and cultural context and formed archetypical thoughts of Koreans.
Third, Ginogui-gut performance is the process of social construction of reality. The participants visualize the irreversible facts such as death through "MangJa RackJi CheonDo"(situating the dead in good place) performance and eventually reconstruct the meaning of the death. The active communication practices in Ginogui-Gut make the space where the dead and the alive could communicate with each other and improve their relation. The interview cases show that Ginogui-Gut is the process to situate the dead and the alive in their right places through reconstructing the meaning of reality.
