A bacteriologic study was performed in 50 cases of acute tonsillitis with tonsil swab at Dept. of Otolaryngology, Chungnam Nationaol University Hospital from April 1985 to March 1986.
The prominent isolates were Branhamella catarrhalis(51.9%), Hemolytic streptococcus(18.6%) and Staphylococcus aureus(7.4%).
The isolated B caterrhails were sensitive to Erythromycin in 20.8%, Ampicillin in 78.6%, Augmentin in 85.7%, Gentamicin in 57.1% and Cepahlowporin 89.3%. The isolated H sterptococcus were sensitive to EM in 40.4%, AM and Aug in 90.0%, GM in 10.0% and CF in 100%. And the isolated S aureus were resistant to EM and AM in 100% and sensitive to Aug in 75.0%, GM and CF in 100%.
