Political parties increasingly segment the electorate to target subgroups of voters, giving more attention to some groups at the expense of others. In the UK, there has been sporadic and often marginal attention paid to women voters. However, the gender gap may now be too large to ignore in contemporary British politics. In this article, we question why more attention has not been paid to the preferences of women voters by political parties, and demonstrate the importance of considering gender as a crucial electoral divide in Britain.
