The purpose of this study is to investigate the nutrient intake and the diet quality of the pregnant by trimester in Daegu. For this purpose a survey of general characteristics, food habits, nutrition knowledge, and nutrient intakes on the target group of 61 pregnants in the residential area of Daegu was conducted. And their diet quality was appraised on the valuation basis of the food groups and food intakes and also on the basis of the nutrient intakes. The first trimester pregnant occupied 26.2 percent, the second trimester 24.6%, and the third trimester 49.2%. The group with higher academic background showed significantly a high score in the nutrition knowledge(p<0.05). Estimated on the dietary reference intakes for koreans, all of the three groups ate less calories than the estimated energy requirements by trimester and age. In addition, all the three groups take less vitamin A, B₁, B₂, niacin, B(6), folic acid, calcium, iron than the recommended intakes, particularly each of the three groups took only 233.4 ㎍, 249 ㎍, 226.8 ㎍ folic acid, which is lower than 50% of the recommended intakes. The intakes of vitamin B₂ and phosphorus increased significantly in the second and third trimester against the first trimester, and sodium intake was on the significant decrease in the third trimester. Estimated the diet quality on the basis of food groups and food intakes, the intakes of vegetable group grew less and less significantly by the third trimester, but those of milk and dairy group increased significantly in the third trimester(p<0.001).
