Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cognitive improvement group program combined with lifestyle education on cognitive Function and depression of the elderly in rural senior center.
Method: The 22 participants who were above 65 years olds(averaging 76.9 years of age) without dementia received 34 weeks of the Cognitive-health Improvement Group Program combined with Lifestyle Education. The Cognitive-health Improvement Group Program was consisted of physical activity, cognitive activity and leisure. The MMSE-DS and S-GDS was conducted in the pretest and posttest. Then the effects of intervention were analyzed using SPSS and including paired t-test.
Result: Participants’ average MMSE-DS scores increased(t=-1.728, p=0.099) and S-GDS scores significantly decreased(t=-1.728, p=0.001) after 34-week intervention.
Conclusion: These findings indicate that an 34-week cognitive improvement program could be an effective intervention program to improve cognitive function, to decrease depression of elders in Rural Senior Center.
