우리의 도시를 기억할 권리: 홍콩의 도시 문화유산 보전을 사례로 = The Right to Remember Our City: Urban Heritage Conservations in Hong Kong

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines relationships of cultural heritage and city identity after Hong Kong’s handover to mainland China from British rule in 1997. Moreover, it reviews which places are based on collective memories and identities of Hong Kong people. Since the 2000s, old public housing estates in Shek Kip Mei were changed to hostels and museums, and Nga Tsin walled village and its folklore culture were at risk of demolition because of redevelopment, and that Hong Kong-style tenament buildings in Wan Chai were targets of urban heritage conservation movements. Theses cases tell us that Hong Kong people are constructing identity, and demand their rights to remember the city. These have many implications for heritage conservation, urban regeneration and gentrification in Korean cities with complicate memories about colonial times and cold war.
