Abstract
This paper proposes a new ABTC (Adaptive block truncation coding) algorithm modified from the BTC for image compression.
The method is based on as SAR (synthetic Aperture Radar) image model and is designed to preserve the local statistics in the image by an adaptive variable rate modification of block truncation coding.
A date rate of approximately 1.6 bit/pixel is achieved with the method while maintaining the image quality and cultural (pointlike) targets.
