The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between middle school students` participation in sport activity , friend association and social competence. The achieve this purpose, the subjects was chosen from middle school students in Seoul, in 2002. The chosen students participated in social association, sports circles and non-participated. There were, the subjects of this study was selected by cluster random sampling of involvement(participants: 166, non-participants: 201, their mother: 367). The total was 834. The survey questionnaires were used to collect the data. The questionnaires had been recognized by Yoo Myung Suk(1993), and developed by Furman and Biermen(1983). And for social ability, we used by Lee Kyoung Hee(1994). The collected data analyzed statistic program SPSS Windows 10.0 Version. The statistical analysis techniques for the statistical analysis are Descriptive Analysis, One-Way ANOVA, Multiple Regression analysis. The results of this study, which were attained through the process, are as follows, First, the friend association are partly differnet by the socio-demographic. Second, the friend association is partly differnt by sports participant and non-participants. Third, the friend association is partly different by participants in sports activity. Fourth, the social competence is affected the friend association.
