William Trevor’s Fools of Fortune reveals how memory narratives can perpetuate conflicts. Through narratives such as the prememory and postmemory, the memories of the traumatic events in Kilneagh are shared and conveyed from one generation to another. The narrative which has been shaped with hatred and anger can harm the postgeneration. These memories can negatively affect the generation who came after the tragic events. Their own life stories are displaced and evacuated by their ancestors’. Trevor argues that tragedies can repeat if one conveys one’s resentment to later generations. (
