In this study, it is considered that related facilities for local residents would
be needed due to the lack of open space and cultural facilities as well as the
improvement of parking and walking environments in densely populated areas
of multifamily housing in Seoul. In this design study, a public parking lot
and an open cultural complex plaza are planned in a school site in disuse to
improve the surrounding parking and walking environment with a high
concentration of multi-family housing in Seoul. The study would expand
open cultural spaces to promote multifamily housing from the perspective of
social sustainability. The purpose is to propose a master plan to improve the
quality of residential environments in multi-family densely populated areas.
The spatial scope of the study was to conduct a study by utilizing a
closed school among the available idle spaces in the region as a research
target for design research. Due to the nationwide decline in school age, it
was deemed necessary to conduct research utilizing school closures in urban
areas. 'Seoul Hwayang Elementary School' was selected as the target site as
it was a closed school in an area with a high concentration of multifamily
housing in Hwayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, where the ratio of multi-household
housing in Seoul is relatively high. Research was accommodated In order to
improve the parking and walking environment in alleys in multi-family
housing blocks where they are densly concentrated. The city of Seoul plans
to conduct a design study on the public parking lot and cultural complex
plaza master plan, along with research on the development of housing types
for housing maintenance within multi-family housings.
The research method is through literature and field surveys to determine
how the facilities planned in this study can work and be applied regionally
and further in the urban aspect to improve parking and walking
environments in alleys in areas where multi-family housing is concentrated.
This study presents as a guide for the application of the considered urban
intentions.
This study will contribute to the continuation of related research, such
as improving the residential environment of multifamily housing and utilizing
abandoned school sites in Seoul, from a social sustainability perspective.
