조선시대 지방관아에서의 공연양상 고찰 = A study of confirm the local performance characteristics in the Joseon Dynasty

국문 초록 (Abstract)

조선시대에 지방의 공연양상을 확인할 수 있는 방법 중의 하나가 사행록에 기록된 내용을 통해서이다. 사신이 국경으로 가는 동안에 숙박하게 되는 지역에서는 해당 관아에서 전별연을 열어주었다. 이들 지역은 전별연에 다양한 공연을 선보일 정도로 경제적 능력을 갖추고 있었고, 교방이 있어서 궁중의 내 · 외연에 선상기를 올려 보내기도 하였다.
대일사행이든 대중국사행이든 사신들은 특별한 사정이 없는 한 일정한 지역에서 숙박하였으며, 그 지역의 관아에서 전별연을 베풀어 주었다. 그러므로 사행에 있어서 거점이 될만한 지역은 정해져 있었다. 통신사 길에서는 ‘충주’, ‘안동’, ‘영천’, ‘경주’, ‘부산’이 그 역할을 하였지만, 사행록에는 ‘안동’, ‘영천’ ‘부산’지역에서의 전별연과 공연만을 기록하고 있다. 그런데 지방공연의 양상이 구체적으로 기록되기 시작한 것은 18세기 중엽이후이기 때문에, 1764년 이전의 전별연 기록만 남아 있는 통신사행에서는 구체적인 공연양상을 확인하기는 쉽지 않다. 통신사의 사행록에는 의례가 중시되는 ‘賜宴’과 풍류가 중심이 되는 ‘私宴’에 따라 공연이 각기 다른 양상으로 전개되고 있다는 사실만 확인할 수 있다.
의주대로에서는 황주, 평양, 안주, 선천, 의주 지역을 중심으로 전별연이 있었다. 그런데 중국으로의 사행은 19세기 말까지 지속되었기 때문에 지방공연의 구체적인 양상과 변화상을 구체적으로 살펴볼 수 있다. 사행록에 기록되어 있는 공연물 중에서 ‘황주’에서는 선유락의 변화가, ‘평양’에서는 조선시대 전반적으로 사행의 중심거점으로 공연이 이루어졌다는 사실을 살펴볼 수 있다. ‘선천’에서는 검무와 항장무의 변화가, ‘의주’에서는 마상재공연 양상이 잘 드러나고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

One of the methods to confirm the local performance characteristics in the Joseon Dynasty is through reference to the contents recorded in the record of envoys' visit. In the regions where envoys stayed while they were going to the frontier, Jeonbyeolyeon (a farewell party) was held by the concerned government office. These regions had sufficient economical ability to present various performances during Jeonbyeolyeon(餞別宴) and having a Kyobang(敎坊), they even sent selected official dancing girls to inner and outside festivals of the Royal Court.
At the time of envoys' visit either to Japan or China, except for special situations, envoys stayed at certain regions and the government office at concerned region held Jeonbyeolyeon. Therefore, lodgement areas during envoys' visit were destined. As envoys' roads, there were mainly 'Chungju', 'Andong', 'Youngcheon', Gyungju' and 'Busan', but in the record of envoys' visit, only Jeonbyeolyeon and performances at 'Andong', 'Youngcheon' and 'Busan' were recorded. However, because local performance characteristics began to be concretely recorded after the middle of the 18th century, it is not easy to confirm concrete performance characteristics during envoy' visit for communicative purpose of which only records of Jeonbyeolyeon before 1764 remain. Through the record of envoys' visit for communicative purpose, we can only confirm that there were different performance characteristics according to the 'banquet' valuing ceremony much and 'private feast' centering on elegance.
On 'the Euiju High Road' as a road for envoys' visit to China, there was Jeonbyeolyeon mainly at Hwangju, Pyungyang, Anju, Seoncheon and Euiju. But because envoys' visit to China continued to the end of the 19th century, it is possible to examine concrete characteristics and changes of local performances. Among performances recorded in the record of envoys' visit, we can examine changes of Seonyurak at 'Hwangju' and the fact that performances were generally done at 'Pyungyang' as the central base for envoy's roads in the Joseon Dynasty. And we can see changes of sword dances and Hangjangmu at 'Seoncheon' and aspects of Masangjae performance well at 'Euiju'.
