The purposes of this study were to find the general trends and the differences of influencing factors of single mothers` psychological well-being and, to analyze the effects of individual, family, social environment variables on the psychological well-being. The subjects were the 284 of single mothers living in Kwangju and Chonnam. The data were analyzed with frequency, t-Test, F-test, Pearsons` r, and multiple regression by SPSS. The major findings were as follows: 1. Scores of single mothers` individual variables showed higher than median, family variables were lower than median, and instrumental support showed higher than emotional support. Single mothers` psychological well-being showed about median. 2. Single mothers` psychological well-being was significantly different from education, health, self-respect, family stress, family resources, mother-child conflicts, monthly income, emotional support, participation of education program, and institutional support. 3. Life satisfaction of single mothers was influenced by health, self-respect, problem-solving coping, family stress, family resources, mother-child conflicts, instrumental support, emotional support, and institutional support. Depression of single mothers was influenced by self-respect, emotional coping, family stress, family resources, mother-child conflicts, emotional support, participation of education program, and institutional support. In conclusion, to develop single mothers` psychological well-being, mothers must be used individual, family, social environment variables and implications for alternatives to support single mothers from this study were provided.
