성 마가렛 숭배 공간 변화의 의미: 1250년 성 마가렛의 유골 이장(translation) = The transformation of devotional space of Dunfermline Abbey: the translation of St Margaret`s remains in 1250

국문 초록 (Abstract)

던펌린 수도원은 스코틀랜드 파이프 지역에 위치한 것으로 스코틀랜드의 여왕 마가렛이 1070년에 설립했다. 그녀는 사후 던펌린에서 성인으로 숭앙받았고 1249년에 교황으로부터 시성 받게 되어 공식적으로 보편 성인의 반열에 올랐다. 시성 받은 성인은 그 위상에 맞게 새로운 성소로 유골을 옮기는 전통이 있었는데, 이에 따라 1250년 성 마가렛의 유골은 새로 조성된 성소로 이장되었다. 콰이어의 주제단 앞에 위치하던 성 마가렛의 무덤이 1250년에 교회 건물의 동쪽 끝에 새롭게 조성된 성유물함 안치소로 옮겨진 것이다. 성인의 유골을 새로운 성소로 옮김으로써 성인 숭배 의식에도 변화가 왔다. 1180년 이후로 콰이어를 중심으로 거행되던 던펌린의 성직자 및 순례자들의 종교 행위 및 신앙 활동이 1250년의 유골 이장을 통해 성유물함 안치소로 이전된 것이다. 성유물함 안치소에 조성된 성 마가렛의 성소는 콰이어의 제한된 공간과 접근의 한계성을 뛰어넘음으로써 성 마가렛 숭배 의식을 번성시키는데 기여할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Dunfermline Abbey located in Fife, Scotland and founded by Queen Margaret of Scotland in 1070. She was venerated as a saint at Dunfermline and was formally canonized by the Pope in 1249. Following the tradition that the remains of a canonized saint had to be translated to a new shrine, St Margaret’s remains were translated in 1250 from a tomb in the choir to a new shrine in the feretory chapel built on the east end of the church. The translation also led to a transition of cult focus from the choir to the feretory chapel. Unlike the choir, the feretory chapel provided pilgrims with easy access to the shrine and spacious area, which ultimately contributed to the development of the saint’s cult.(Sungkyunkwan University/[e-mail])
