A Study on failure strength of rock under uniaxial and triaxial compression tests was carried out for underground structural design in domestic and foreign countries recently.
An experimental study was made for the core specimens of SANG-DONG tungsten mine.
The results are as follows;
1. Failure strength was increasing gradually with increase of confining pressure.
2. Longitudinal and lateral strain increased in proportion to confining pressure under triaxial compression tests.
3. Stress-strain curves showed straight line to 62% of failure strength.
4. Effect of failure strength about porosity was 3.0% on the average and it represented lower value comparatively.
5. The values of triaxial compressive strength were distributed between 345 and 3082㎏/㎠, the mean value of which was 1063㎏/㎠.
6. The mean value of modulus of longitudinal elasticity(E) was 3.6X 10^5㎏/㎠ and poisson's ratio was 0.35.
