This study examined the parental rising attitude and its effects on the development of EQ of children and analyzed the stronger influences between the mother and the father on the EQ of children. Hence, the objective was to assist the children to be competent individuals in a home, a school and a society.
The following study questions were developed to achieve above-mentioned objective.
First, how was the rising attitude of parents, and was it different by the age and the gender of children?
Second, how was the EQ of children and was it different by the age and the gender of children?
Third, what was the effect of maternal rising attitude on the EQ of children?
Forth, what was the effect of fatherly rising attitude on the EQ of children?
Fifth, between the maternal and the fatherly rising attitude, which one gave more effects on the EQ of children?
To solve above-listed questions, a survey was conducted on the students and their parents in kindergartens and elementary schools, located in the capital region. Among the data collected, the final three hundreds were selected as a sample, rating by parents. For the tool study, a part of the rising attitude scale by Schaefer (1961) was used after the modification and the revision and the EQ test, developed on the basis of the primary model of EQ by Moon, Yong Lin (1996) was also used. For the statistical analysis of data, the reliability, X2 test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's multiple comparison, Pearson's correlation analysis and the multiple regression analysis were performed by using SPSS for Windows version 8.0.
Analyzing the questions, addressed in the study, the following results were drawn.
First, regardless of gender and age of children, both parents raised the children with love and care.
Second, the female children showed higher EQ in the recognition, the expression and the control of EQ than the male children.
Third, the maternal rising attitude influenced the EQ of children. When the mothers raised the children affectingly and independently, children's ability to recognize, express and control EQ and the empathy increased.
Forth, the fatherly rising attitude influenced the EQ of children. When the fathers raised the children affectingly and independently, the ability to recognize, express and control EQ and the empathy increased.
Fifth, the maternal rising attitude gave greater impact on the development of EQ of children than the fatherly rising attitude.
