Attachments of an excavator experience cyclic loads which vary quite a lot depending on the working conditions. Field measurement enables to take the variations in loads into account. In this study, loads on the excavator attachments and strains at specific locations have been measured for a sufficiently long period and investigated in order to obtain damage equivalent strains at each location. Then, one representative scenario of motion has been selected which gives almost the same stains as the long-term damage equivalent stains. Availability of the representative motion scenario was confirmed by comparing the stains with those from FMBD analysis. Finally, much more reliable fatigue analysis and optimization could be performed based on the representative motion scenario.
