플루타르코스의 『코리올라누스』에 나타난 로마 귀족의 권위와 기반 = Authority and Agrarian Foundation of Roman Aristocrats Described in Plutarch’s Coriolanus

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It has been accepted that Plutarch’s Coriolanus was not a history but a fiction. Recently some scholars began to assert that this story could have historical aspects relating to the early republican period. I tried to apply some theories in order to understand the informations in it. First Hannah Arendt’s interpretation of Auctoritas is applied into the aristocratic authority. For long, the authority had meant to conquer, to expand and to distribute land. This concept was to clash catastrophically with the system operated by the popular election in the story. Then Paul Veyne’s concept of euergetism is utilized in order to illuminate the meaning of corn supplies. According to Coriolanus, corn was the base of the military force, without which a state could not exist. Lastly I applied Capogrossi’s assertion, according to which their land had been out of state control in the early republican period. This economic foundation must have related deeply with the aristocratic authority.
