The purpose of this study is to shed some light on the development of Kyeryong Construction Company. The company, established in 1970. has become as one of the top 25 leading construction companies despite the facts that it does not belong to a Chaebol and that it has a strong tendency to localism.
The company has shown several features worth noticing, in the process of its successful growth. First of all, the founder s entrepreneurship and management philosophy have significantly affected the company s growth and organization culture. Secondly, the company has built very close relations with local society and has been very socially responsible. Thirdly, instead of adopting diversification to red uce its risk. it has focused its core business to increase firm value. Finally. the company has been very swift in adapting the rapid changes of economic and industrial environments with proper contingency plans.
In order for Kyeryong to continue its successful operation at this stage. management should be fully aware of the importance or entrepreneurial innovation as well as technological innovation. This study also recommends that the company invest more heavily in such areas as risk management and human resource management. In addition, the company needs to be more aggressive in reducing informational asymmetry and agency problems in accordance with recent growing stakeholders activism.
