峿堂 李象秀의 『詩經』해설 방식과 의미 －｢讀詩隨筆｣을 중심으로－ = A Study for examining the method of commentary on 『Shijing(The Classics of Poetry)』 through ｢Dúshīsuíbǐ(讀詩隨筆)｣ by a scholarin the late Joseon Dynasty, Lee Sang-soo

The purpose of this paper is to examine the method of commentary on 『Shijing(The Classics of Poetry)』 through ｢Dúshīsuíbǐ｣ by a scholar in the late Joseon Dynasty, Lee Sang-soo(1820~1882).
He was a Horon scholar and a nongam literaturer in the late Joseon Dynasty. He was associated with various litterateurs and scholars of the Horon and Nongam worlds, and combined the strengths of Philology and rhetoric. This provides an opportunity to use various commentary methods in the study of Chinese classics. A typical example is ｢Dúshīsuíbǐ｣. It is a commentary on 『Shijing』, and a collection of short essays that describe opinions, impressions, and opinions in a free form. It is in the form of aimed at poems about the ruling party's mismanagement, analyzed the background of the incident and the feelings of the characters, and advanced one's own opinion. This is a case that reveals not only the insight of a scholar of scripture but also the aspect of a writer.
As a result of examining the method of its commentary on 『Shijing』, It was found that the pattern consisted of two main parts. First, Reinforcement of reasoning through narrative. Second, Reinforcement of reasoning through lyricism. First, It is to secure the trust of the readers, and reflects his bibliographical opinion, which judged that historical records close to the time of the writing of 『Shijing』should be used as a basis. It was intended to elicit sympathy from readers, and his rhetorical view was reflected in his understanding of the literary quality of 『Shijing』as ‘inducing empathy through empathy’. Therefore, his way of interpreting the scriptures can be said to be a case of succession and transformation of the merits of Philology and rhetoric.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 조선후기 학자 峿堂 李象秀(1820~1882)의 ｢讀詩隨筆｣을 통해 그 『詩經』 해설 방식을 검토하는 데에 목적이 있다.
이상수는 조선후기 호론계 경학자이자 농암계 문학가이다. 그는 호론계와 농암계의 여러 문인 학자와 교유하면서 고증학과 수사학의 장점을 아우르게 된다. 이는 다양한 해설 방식을 경학 연구에 활용하는 계기가 된다. 그 대표적 사례가 ｢독시수필｣이다. ｢독시수필｣은 『시경』 해설서이자, 소견･감상･의론을 자유로운 형식으로 기술한 단편수필집이다. 이는 『시경』의 變風･變雅 중 위정자의 失政을 소재로 한 시구를 대상으로 하여, 해당 사건의 배경과 인물의 심정을 분석하고 자신의 의론을 개진하는 형식으로 되어 있다. 이는 경학자의 식견 뿐 아니라 문학가의 면모를 아울러 드러낸 사례라 할 수 있다.
｢독시수필｣의 『시경』 해설 방식을 검토한 결과, 그 양상이 크게 두 가지로 이루어져 있음을 확인하였다. 서사를 통한 의론의 강화, 서정을 통한 의론의 강화가 그것이다. 서사를 통한 의론의 강화의 경우 독자의 신뢰를 확보하기 위한 것으로, 『시경』의 저작 시기에 근접한 사료를 논거로 삼아야 한다고 판단한 그의 고증학적 견해가 반영된 것이다. 서정을 통한 의론의 강화의 경우 독자의 공감을 끌어내기 위한 것으로, 『시경』의 문학성을 ‘감정 이입을 통한 공감 유도’로 이해한 그의 수사학적 견해가 반영된 것이다.
따라서 이상수의 경전 해설 방식은 호론계와 농암계의 고증학과 수사학의 장점을 계승 변용한 사례라 할 수 있다. 유연한 태도로 다양한 학설과 방식을 수용하여 활용하는 등 조선후기 변화된 학풍의 구체적 사례를 엿보았다는 점에서 학술적 의의가 있다고 생각한다.
