The purpose of this study is to grasp the relationship between sportsmanship, organizational citizenship behavior and persistent participation intention of badminton lovers at the point of increasing interest in the maintenance and development of badminton clubs.
This study surveyed 300 male and female badminton club members living in Jeollabuk-do. The sampling method was a convenience sampling method, which is a non-probability sampling method. The questionnaire was distributed and collected directly from January 9, 2017 to February 24, 2017. A total of 280 questionnaires were analyzed excluding the 20 out of the 300 questionnaires which were judged to lack reliability for the reasons of double entry, no entry, bad data, etc.
The questionnaire consisted of sportsmanship, organizational citizenship behavior, intention of continuous participation and demographic characteristics. As a specific measurement variable, sportsmanship consisted of respect for opponents, team spirit, result recognition, respect for judgment, peer consideration, and obsession with the outcome. Organizational citizenship behavior consisted of altruism, conscience actions, participation, and courtesy. Intention of continuous participation was composed of participation intention and recommendation intention. Respondents responded to each question using a five point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 23.0 and included validity analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, difference test (t-test, F-test) and recurrence analysis. The results of this study are as follows.
First of all, as a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to gender, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, result recognition, judgement respect, peer consideration among sportsmanship sub-variables, and altruism, participation, courtesy among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables. As a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to age, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, team spirit, judgement respect, peer consideration among sportsmanship sub-variables, and altruism, participation, courtesy among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables. As a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to education, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, team spirit, judgement respect, peer consideration among sportsmanship sub-variables, and altruism, participation, courtesy among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables. As a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to frequency of participation, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, team spirit, peer consideration, obsession with the outcome among sportsmanship sub-variables, and altruism, conscience actions, participation among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables. As a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to average monthly salary, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, team spirit, judgement respect, peer consideration among sportsmanship sub-variables, and altruism, conscience actions, courtesy among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables. As a result of verifying the difference of the variables according to average monthly sports expenses, there was a statistically significant difference in opponent respect, team spirit, peer consideration, obsession with the outcome among sportsman sub-variables, and altruism, conscience actions, courtesy among organizational citizenship behavior sub-variables, and participation intention, recommendation intention among continuous participation intention sub-variables.
Second, as a result of multiple regression analysis on the effect of sportsmanship of badminton club members on the continuous participation intention, it was found that result recognition, judgment respect, team spirit, positively influence participation intention among the sub-variables of sportsmanship positively impact participation intention, which is a sub-variable of continuous participation intention. It was also found that peer consideration, team spirit, opponent respect which are the sub-variables of sportsmanship positively impact recommendation intention which is a sub-variable of continuous participation intention.
Third, as a result of multiple regression analysis on the effect of organizational citizenship behavior of the badminton club members on the continuous participation intention, it was found that participation behavior, courtesy, and altruism which are sub-variables of organizational citizenship behavior positively impact participation intention and recommendation intention which are sub-variables of continuous participation intention.
Fourth, as a result of multiple regression analysis on the effect of sportsmanship of badminton club members on organizational citizenship behavior, it was found that sub-variables of sportsmanship such as opponent respect, peer consideration, team spirit, and judgement respect positively impact altruism, conscience actions, participation, and courtesy which are sub-variables of organizational citizenship behavior.
In conclusion, sportsmanship, which can be regarded as the foundation of a man's sociality and manners required in modern society, and ability to play a positive role in social life, that is, organizational citizenship, can form an environment that allows continuous participation of badminton club members to club activities. In addition, socially and morally desirable attitudes and behaviors that human beings should obtain are formed through sports activities, and sportsmanship and organizational citizenship act positively in social life and become a chance to participate in badminton clubs continuously.
