The study of the Neolithic Age in the eastern of Jeollanam-do began in the late 1980s when the excavation survey was conducted by the National Gwangju Museum. Since then, research has been conducted on the southern coast of Honam and Yeongnam coastal areas, Since 2010, excavation survey data on the eastern inland area and coastal area of Jeonnam has been accumulated. Therefore, I tried to understand the cultural aspects that show regional characteristics through the arrangement of the current status of the accumulated data, the results of the survey and the analysis of the location.
First, the status of the ruins was identified, and based on the results of the research, the location was classified into the inland area, the inner area, and the outer area. After that, it was divided into five stages based on the chronological plan of the pottery, and the overall cultural aspects were summarized through the functional analysis of the accompanying stoneware and bone tools after confirming the change patterns by period.
The I and II periods in the eastern region Jeonnam correspond to the earliest period ~ electricity, and most of them are distributed in the outer area(far sea) except for some ruins. It is confirmed that the quantity of relics increases as the period changes from the earliest period ~ electricity, which can be interpreted as an increase in the occupancy period. The Ⅲ period corresponds to the metaphase(middle period), which is understood as a transitional nature due to changes in livelihood activities, and only a small amount of relics are identified in the two sites. Periods IV and V are the periods corresponding to the late-to-expiration period, and various remains are identified in the inland area, which is recognized as a change in livelihood activities due to sea level fluctuations.
In summary, the culture of the Neolithic Age in the eastern region Jeollanam-do is confirmed mainly in the ruins of earliest period ~ electricity and late-to-expiration period, and it seems that the llivelihood activities have been gradually moved inland from the aspect of livelihood activities and foreign exchange centered on the coast according to the time.
