A mobile platform radar was developed with a short antenna rotation speed and a high pulse repetition frequency for quick target detection and target information acquisition. Some factors cause false short-range targets by a ground clutter in the long pulse mode and cause non-detection regions in the short pulse mode for small aircraft in this system. The short-range mode, which radiates short pulses, is unsuitable for detecting small aircraft in the maximum instrument range because it is designed for aircraft with large radar cross-sections. In this study, we reduced the false targets of short the range to improve the time-side lobe level in the pulse-compression receiver with a long pulse and expanded the detection range to cover the maximum instrument range for small targets to adopt the long pulse in the short-range mode. This will help anti-aircraft fire arms perform their duties effectively for small unmanned aerial vehicles in the short-range mode.
