Career decision, an important variable that determines an individual's life, significantly influences the current life depending on the career path chosen by the individual. If one makes a rational decision on our career path and is satisfied, one can lead a happy life. To make the right career decision, therefore, it is necessary to understand one’s aptitude, interest, personality, and to acquire knowledge about the job and the essential ability to perform it.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between individual factors, environmental factors, occupational factors, social factors, and educational system factors, which are the factors influencing career decision-making, and their impact on major satisfaction in terms of satisfaction with the curriculum and classes, relationship satisfaction, and perception satisfaction. The study aims to suggest strategic approaches to enhance major satisfaction. In this study, an optimized Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) was used to identify career decision-making factors that need to be actively improved by comparing expectations and satisfaction with the experience of career decision-making factors among college students. The study aims to suggest effective strategic methods to enhance major satisfaction. Through this, the study aims to understand college students’ career decision-making factors and major satisfaction, and to review whether important attributes are being performed well.
Firstly, to increase major satisfaction, the career decision-making factor that needs to be maintained is the educational system factor. Secondly, the career decision-making factor that needs to be reexamined to increase major satisfaction is the individual factor. Thirdly, to enhance satisfaction with the curriculum and classes and relationship satisfaction, the career decision-making factors that need to be actively strengthened are environmental factors, occupational factors, and social factors among major satisfaction factors. Fourthly, to increase perception satisfaction among major satisfaction factors, the career decision-making factors that need to be actively strengthened are occupational factors and social factors. Based on these research results, universities should, first, develop capabilities that can be enhanced while maintaining the current educational system factor. Second, they should explore ways to apply students’ individual characteristics to the educational curriculum. Additionally, they should identify environmental, occupational, and social factors that students desire and actively strengthen these factors to enhance their capabilities. Finally, universities should explore ways to develop capabilities that can be enhanced by actively strengthening occupational and social factors to increase the school’s perception.
