마태복음의 누룩 비유(13:33)와 맥락

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 마태복음의 누룩 비유(13:33)를 평행 본문들과 비교하고 주변문헌들을 참조하여 분석한 것이다. 누룩 비유는 누가복음(13:20-21)과 도마복음(96)에도 나오지만, 특히 마태복음에서는 중심부인 13장에 나오고, 13장에서도 한가운데에 등장한다. 예수세미나 회원들은 현존하는 예수 비유들 가운데 가장 신뢰할 만한 비유를 마태복음의 누룩 비유라고 평가하였다. 그러나 마태복음의 누룩 비유에 대한 선행연구는 두 자료설과 Q자료설의 영향으로 그 중요성을 간과하였고, 율리허(A. Jülicher)의 한 비교점 이론의 영향으로 누룩 비유의 비교점이 대조인지 성장인지를 결정하는 문제에 지나치게 집착하였다. 더구나 스캇(B.B. Scott)은 휠라이트(Philip Wheelwright)의 병치은유(diaphor) 이론을 누룩 비유 해석에 적용하기 위하여 지중해 연안에서 여자, 누룩, 숨김의 주제가 예외 없이 부정적이었다고 해석함으로써 누룩 비유의 함의와 맥락을 왜곡하는 경향이 있다. 그러나 리벤버그(Jacobus Liebenberg)는 유대 전통에서 누룩을 넣은 유교병(레 7:13; 23:17, LXX)과 숨김 주제가 언제나 부정적인 것만은 아니었다고 바르게 지적한다. 이 논문은 리벤버그의 지적을 토대로 유대 및 헬라적 유대 문헌과 초대기독교 문헌에서 누룩과 유교병, 숨김 주제가 언제나 부정적인 것만은 아니었음을 입증한다. 또한 초대기독교 저자들은 누룩 비유의 여자를 비천하고 부정적으로 평가하기보다는 비범하고 신비하게 보았음을 입증한다. 예컨대 터툴리안과 힙폴리투스는 누룩 비유의 구성 요소들을 부정적이거나 비천하게 평가하지 않고, 이교도 신비 의식과 유사하게 읽힐 수 있는 점을 우려하였다. 한편, 마태복음 13장에서 누룩 비유는 겨자씨 비유뿐만 아니라 다른 파종과 추수 비유들(씨 뿌리는 자의 비유 및 그 해석, 알곡과 가라지 비유)과도 연결되는데, 이 논문은 마태복음의 누룩 비유 맥락이 파종과 추수 이후에 유교병을 소제로 드리는 유대 전통과 연관이 있을 가능성이 있다고 제안한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper explores the words, themes, ideas, and context of the Parable of the Leaven in Matthew 13:33 and suggests a reading from the perspective of the Jewish Festival of Weeks during which leavened bread must be offered. In order to read some meanings peculiar to the Matthean context, the paper analyzes similarities and differences between the Matthean text and context of the parable and the other versions of the parable such as in Luke 13:20-21 and NHC II,2 GThom 29. Only in Matthew, the leaven parable is combined not only with the Parable of the Mustard Seed but also with the other sowing and harvest parables such as the Parable of the Sower and its interpretation, and the Parable of Weeds among the Wheat. The Parable of the Leaven appears in the middle of the Gospel of Matthew, and the Matthean version won the most votes for the likely authentic parable of Jesus from the Jesus Seminar fellows as seen in the Red Letter Edition (1988). Nevertheless, the parable in Matthew and its context has not been explored enough partly because the two-source theory and Q source hypothesis focus more on Mark and Luke rather than on Matthew. A. Jülicher’s theory of one point of comparison has further inclined previous studies of the parable too much towards the discussion whether the point of the parable is comparison or contrast. Moreover, B. B. Scott (1989) interprets all the themes of woman, leaven, and the act of hiding in the parable as negative symbols of the first-century Mediterranean world only to apply Philip Wheelwright`s concept of diaphor to the parable by force. Jacobus Liebenberg (2001), however, rightly points out that leavened bread and the act of hiding were not always negative in the world. Based on Liebenberg’s observation, this paper further proves that the offering of leavened bread in the Festival of Weeks in Lev 23:17 is attested in the Hellenistic Jewish Literature, such as in Philo, Josephus, and Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition, no extant early Christian text interprets the woman and the act of hiding in the parable as negative.
