고전에 나타난 이성장(異性裝)과 젠더 = Cross-dressing and gender in the classics

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper focuses on cross-dressing in classical works from the Heian period to the Muromachi period and reveals that it is related to gender issues. First, I analyzed Torikaebayamonogatari and found that this work deals with women who reject their female gender. Second, the Noh story of a Shite woman who dressed up in men’s clothes was revealed to relate to possession by a spirit; the phenomenon represented the woman’s madness. The Noh story also highlighted the cause of this madness to be the woman’s love for a man. Third, this paper pointed out that male costumes of women are related to female discrimination in Buddhism. Finally, Shinkuroudo tells the story of a transgender woman who becomes a bhikkuni, an unacceptable existence, even in Buddhism
