영화의 카메라 움직임에 따른 표현 분석 : 서스펜스 기법을 중심으로 = Analysis of Movie Production by Camera Movement-focusing on suspense

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 종합 예술이라 일컬어지고 있는 영화가 단순히 기록물이나 오락물이 아닌 예술로서 발전하는 데에는 영화 표현력의 발전과 관련이 있다. 다양한 표현방식인 클로즈업, 몽타주, 카메라 움직임 등의 여러 가지 기술이 발전하면서 예술로서의 성장을 이루기 시작했다. 그 중 카메라 움직임의 발견은 영화의 서술능력을 더욱 발전시키는 원동력이 되었다.
본 연구에서는 카메라 움직임으로 영화가 수많은 특별한 서술 능력을 갖추게 되었다는 영화이론가들의 이론을 바탕으로 영화에서 서스펜스 기법에 표현된 카메라 움직임의 표현에 대해 분석하였다. 쇼트 내 움직임 분석결과 카메라가 줌 시 인물이나 상황에 너무 깊이 들어가지 않았으며, 카메라가 줌으로 움직일 때 인물이나 대상이 함께 움직이는 것이 눈에 띄었다. 쇼트와 쇼트 사이의 카메라 이동에서는 서스펜스를 표현하기 위해 클로즈업이 많이 사용되어 인물의 감정이나 심리적 묘사를 시각화시키는데 효과를 이끌어냈다. 또한 극의 전개가 빨라지거나 긴장감을 유발할 때 쇼트의 수를 늘여 속도감과 긴장감을 높였다. 이와 같이 다양한 앵글과 쇼트의 크기 그리고 카메라 자체의 이동으로 인해 영화는 내러티브의 구조를 더욱 탄탄히 할 수 있었고, 관객으로 하여금 서스펜스 기법의 표현이 극의 몰입도와 감정이입을 훨씬 강화하는 것을 발견하였다.
따라서 지각적 서스펜스 과정에 큰 역할을 도모할 수 있도록 새로운 장면을 시각화 할 수 있는 다양한 방법을 개발하고, 카메라 기법자체에 의한 창의적인 화면구성 방법을 제시 할 수 있는 연구가 지속되어 영화뿐만 아니라 시간과 공간적인 제약성을 갖는 애니메이션, TV광고, 뮤직비디오, 모션그래픽 등 다양한 장르에서도 서로 소통하는 방법으로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Nowadays a film is called a composite art. The fact that a film has evolved into an art instead of merely remaining as something for record or entertainment is linked to the development of film expressiveness.
The purpose of this study is to examine camera movement of suspense in a film, as a lot of film theorists argued that camera movement allowed films to have superb narrative capabilities. As a result of analyzing intra shot movement, it's found that there is slow movement without taking a deep look at actors or situations when the camera zoomed in or out. In case of moving the camera between shots, closeup is often used to represent suspense, and it is especially used to describe the feelings or psychology of actors. Thus, diverse angles, shots of different sizes and the movement of a camera made it possible to solidify the narrative structure and made a great contribution to the improvement of the immersion and empathy of viewers.
Therefore it's necessary to pay careful attention to the utilization of diverse camera movement and the development of new technology, which could have a huge impact on the process of perceptual suspense, and prolonged research efforts should be channeled into that. It is expected to be widely used as a means of communication in not only films but every sort of visual arts restricted by time and space, namely animation, TV commercial, music video and motion graphics.
