The United Nations Institute of Peace Operations, ITS published a new fild Manual for the UN Infantry Battalion in 2020. In addition, the UNIBAM STM will be published so that infantry battalions deployed from member states can use it practically during the training to prepare for depolyment on the mission area. The United Nations ITS formed a professional advisory group composed of experts from UN member states to publish UNIBAM STM. A military advisory group composed of 24 experts from 14 member countries has been discussing and preparing data through video conferences since February 2021, and finally drafted in August. After that, experts from each country gathered at the UN Regional Support Center(UNRSCE) in Entebbe, Uganda, for two weeks to prepare the final version after meetings and discussions. For the first time in the Korean military, I participated in the U.N. military advisory group. The UNIBAN STM presents the current situation of the UN mission, the focus of the UN peace operation, and the direction of education for troops deployed from member states. Currently, key UN missions such as Congo, Sudan, and Central Africa, which are recognized as dangerous areas among U.N. missions, are increasingly sacrificing soldiers. Accordingly, Secretary-General Guterres, newly inaugurated in 2017, is implementing the A4P as an action for reform of the United Nations. The A4P makes it an important issue for troops deployed to the UN mission area to be equipped with the latest high-tech equipment and well-trained. In particular, it focuses on education and training of infantry battalions, which are engaged directly with hostile forces. The newly included or detailed areas in the U.N. Infantry Battalion's STM are currently the United Nations' main focus, and it is believed that South Korea can apply them to training of the Dongmyeong troops deployed to Lebanon and to some extent.
