Flowers are an aesthetically organic medium whose natural beauty stimulates the senses to inspire faith, and render Catholic liturgy beautiful. In recent years, leveraging the intrinsic spiritual and artistic values of flowers, flower arrangement has become a key sphere of artistic representation in the Catholic world. In this study, I have attempted to express a new realm of flower arrangement through using the medium to explore the diverse life of Saint Peter. Saint Peter`s life was one of struggle, spiritual maturation, and martyrdom. Peter endured much difficulty after he decided to leave his familiar confines, and devote his new life to the will of the Lord. Nevertheless, through much trial and tribulation, Peter matured in his spirituality to become the prime apostle through his selfless devotion to establish the Catholic Church. Even in the end, his everlasting devotion to the Holy Trinity was solidified through his martyrdom as he became the saint of saints. My flower arrangement series focuses on specific tableaux of Peter`s life whose total sum represents his spiritual inner transformation; namely, Peter called upon by the Lord, The Confession of Peter, Sleeping Peter, Peter who denies the Lord, The Contrite Peter, and Peter who searches for the tomb of Jesus. Each flower arrangement works to express a specific tableaux by integrating the color, texture and smell of the flowers with those of the vase and other objects in its periphery. The entire symphony of senses acts to imbue upon the observer a first hand experience of a specific scene in Peter`s inner transformation. Put together, the brilliant kaleidoscope of flowers works to express the radiant beauty Saint Peter`s devotion, and the brilliant inspiration that his transformation sheds upon our Catholic universe. In the end, it is true that flower arrangement is still but a nascent field in the realm of Catholic artistic expression. However, I sincerely hope that our study will help to further interest in liturgical flower arrangements, and to render the application of the field more systematic.
