기억에 남는 관광 경험(MTE) 연구의 비판적 고찰 = A critical review of Memorable Tourism Experience(MTE) studies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 관광자의 미래 행동을 예측할 수 있는 강력한 변수로 최근 주목받고 있는 기억에 남는 관광 경험(Memorable Tourism Experience: MTE) 관련 국내 연구를 비판적으로 고찰하고, 향후 발전 방안을 제안하였다. 2017 년부터 2024년 6월까지 발표된 총 29편의 관련 논문을 세 가지 범주로 분석한 결과 MTE 속성 및 척도 개발 연구 7편, 형성 요인 연구 5편, 그리고 행동변수와의 관계에 관한 연구 17편으로 나타났으며, 특히 대상 논문 중 17편(58.6%)이MTE를 중심으로 행동변수들과의 인과관계를 밝히는 연구에 치중된 것으로 분석됐다. 이 연구는 네 가지 MTE 연구 방향을 제안했다. 첫째, 다차원적인 속성을 갖고 있는 복잡하고 모호한 개념인 MTE의 본질 이해를 위해서 ‘경험의 주체’와‘경험의 주체에 의해 기억되는 방식’의 이해에 보다 많은 연구가 필요함을 제시했다. 둘째, 같은 맥락에서 MTE를 시간의흐름에 따라 변화될 여지가 많은 기억이라고 보고, 현장경험이 시간이 지나면서 어떻게 기억에 남는 관광경험이 되는가를밝히는 종단 연구의 필요성을 제언했다. 셋째, 다양한 MTE 형성요인 연구와 정성적 연구의 필요성을 주장했다. 끝으로사회적⋅문화적 차원의 연구 필요성을 강조했다. 이 연구는 국내 기억에 남는 관광 경험과 관련한 연구 성과를 비판적시각에서 종합적으로 고찰한 첫 번째 연구라는 점과, 향후 MTE 연구 방향과 관련해 의미 있는 발전 방안을 제시했다는점에서 그 의의가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study critically examines Korean studies regarding Memorable Tourism Experience (MTE), which has recently attracted attention as a powerful predictor of future behaviors of tourists, and suggests future research directions. A total of 29 papers published from 2017 to June 2024 published in domestic journals were analyzed. The papers were classified into three categories: seven papers on MTE attributes and scale development, five papers on MTE formation factors, and 17 papers on MTE's relationships with behavioral variables. In particular, 17 papers (58.6%) focused on testing causal relationships between MTE and behavioral variables. This study proposed four directions for MTE research. First, more focus on 'the subject of experience' and 'the way an experience is remembered by its subject' is needed to understand the nature of MTE, a complex and ambiguous concept with multidimensional properties. Second, in a similar vein, MTE can be viewed as a memory with much room for change over time, and therefore, longitudinal research is necessary to understand how an onsite experience becomes memorable over time. Third, more research on the factors that formulate MTE and more qualitative research is needed. Finally, the social and cultural aspects of MTE should be emphasized as well. This study is significant as it is the first one to comprehensively and critically examine the Korean research related to MTE and it presents meaningful suggestions for future MTE research.
