In this study, we performed numeric analysis of surface stress of RCS roll shape. The RCS roll which helps movement of strip develops crack of roll surface with time. The analysis of surface stress is important in the RCS roll, because there is a close connection between distribution of surface stress and the crack of roll surface.
We calculated thermal-stress analysis of RCS roll using finite element method. Material used in this study is passed thermal fatigue test in 'POSCO'. Temperature of strip bordering the RCS roll is 600 ℃, and temperature of cooling water is 40℃. Rotating speed of RCS roll is 120 rpm. In this same conditions, we have done a comparative analysis of surface stress of earlier-used RCS roll shape and currently-used RCS roll shape.
As a results, currently-used RCS roll shape has a less influence of the temperature than earlier-used RCS roll shape. Currently-used RCS roll shape relieve surface stress compared with earlier-used RCS roll shape about 40 %.
