This paper presents a design optimization of a thermal nano-imprinting machine structure using a genetic algorithm with variable penalty function. Design problem, in this study, is to find out structural member sizes to minimize weight and complianc of the machine structure simultaneously subject to some design constraints. After design optimization, the static compliance of the machine structure was reduced by 30% with reduce of weight by 7.2% than before. The measured compliance of the thermal nano-imprinting machine showed good agreement with the theoretically optimized value.
