추상으로 표현된 자연 이미지 연구 : 본인작품〈Over the rainbow〉시리즈를 중심으로

Under the preposterous circumstances of viewing nature as the only means for the profits of men, people as social being are destined to separate from nature of necessity. Humans alienated from nature, however, are the very body- nature, and in that sense, they are just living with the loss of primitive roots. So any efforts to think of and find myself in nature may be a compensation for the loss through healing sense of isolation and wounds the civilized society brought about.
Based on my work of From here, Over there and Over the rainbow series, this study reviews the importance of men's spiritual value which changes in nature and abstraction of expression methods.
As social being, men cannot live alone and must accept inevitably social elements in order to live with others although they oppress them and destroy nature. But it necessarily causes solitude, which in turn demands nature for them to eagerly escape from such feeling of loneliness. Nature keeps out of unfair forces of society which suppress individuals, therefore it could give the peace of mind to men in addition to purifying their body and soul. To learn the providence and reason of nature helps men to realize a true inner mind that had to be forgotten so as to live as social being. With the encounter with nature, I started applying nature images to my work and through this process, I have witnessed my spiritual growth and at the same time renewed ways of getting out of endless tension.
The color-field layers piled up on the canvas of my works hold symbolic meanings like thickness of time piled high or the old scars. Such traces of life too deeply connected to each other to unlink could be after all liberated by interchange with nature. Color cracks of sharp shapes that are formed here and there on the screen are seen on a double curtain of opaque tone. The anxious-looking cracks go through long and winding roads and finally reach a way of life. Images of such gaps are the important subject in connecting my daily life and work of art and that is the start of a channel towards inner self along with nature. This small space left seemingly bitten or erased is reborn a true place that asks for introspection. And it is filled with the meaning of true love and eternal life.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자연을 오로지 이익을 위해 사용하는 수단으로서만 대하는 태도가 팽배한 사회 속에서 살아가는 인간은 사회적 존재로 살아가기 위해 필연적으로 자연과 동떨어진 채로 살아가게 된다. 그러나 자연과 분리되어 살아가는 인간은 그 자신도 육체를 지닌 자연이라는 점에서 근원을 잃고 살아가는 것이나 다름없다. 이 때문에 자연 속에서 나를 생각하고 나를 찾는 작업은 문명화 되어 있는 세상에서 받은 상처와 고립을 어루만지는 상실에 대한 보상이라 할 수 있다.
본 작품론은 본인의 작품 <From here> <Over there> <Over the rainbow> 시리즈를 자연 안에서 변화되는 인간의 정신적 가치의 중요성과 표현방법의 추상성에 관한 연구이다.
인간은 사회적 존재로서 혼자서는 살 수 없으며 다른 사람과 어울려 살아가기 위해서는 그 사회를 구성하는 요소가 인간을 억압하고 자연을 파괴하는 것이라 하더라도 받아들이지 않을 수 없다. 이는 고독을 형성하게 되는데, 이러한 고독에서 벗어나고자 하는 열망은 자연과의 만남으로 이어질 수 있다. 대자연은 사회가 개인에게 가하는 부당한 힘에게서 벗어나 있으므로 메말라가는 심신을 정화시키고 마음의 평화를 줄 수 있다. 자연의 섭리와 이치를 배우는 것은 인간이 사회적 존재로 적응하기 위해 망각해야만 했던 참된 내면을 깨닫게 해준다. 본인은 이러한 자연과의 만남이라는 경험을 계기로 자연 이미지를 작품 활동에 활용하기 시작하였으며 이는 정신적인 성장으로 이어져 끊임없는 긴장에서 헤어 나와 삶의 존재 방식을 새롭게 정비하게 된다.
본인의 작품화면 바탕에 층층이 깔린 색면 층은 겹겹이 쌓인 시간의 두께처럼, 오래된 상흔처럼 그 상징적 의미가 있다. 영원히 풀리지 않을 것처럼 결속력이 강했던 그 삶의 존재들도 결국 자연과의 교류 안에서 해방될 수 있다. 불투명한 색채의 이중적 장막위로 언뜻언뜻 형성된 예리한 모양의 색 틈이 보인다. 불안해 보이는 틈은 이제 길고 구석진 길을 돌아 찾은 생명의 길임을 알 수 있다. 틈이 품은 이미지는 본인의 일상과 작업에 연결되어 활동하는 중요한 주제이며 이는 자연과 함께 내적자아로 들어서는 통로의 시작이라 할 수 있다. 이 뜯어진 듯 지워지면서 남겨진 작은 공간은 내면의 성찰을 요구하는 진실한 곳으로 거듭난다. 진정한 사랑과 영원한 생명의 의미로 채워진 것이다.
