The purpose of this study is to demonstrate whether open internal communication has influence on PR practitioners’ recognition and performance of professionalism, and their job satisfaction. To confirm this purpose, a survey was conducted between two groups of PR practitioners; corporate PR practitioners and PR agency practitioners. Specially, following 4 research questions are set up for this study:
1. Does open internal communication in a PR organization have influence on PR practitioners’ recognition and performance of professional standards?
2. Does open internal communication in a PR organization have influence on PR practitioners’ job satisfaction?
3. Is there any difference in PR practitioners’ job satisfaction whether PR practitioners perform the professional standards concertedly which they recognize importantly or not?
4. According to two groups of PR practitioners, is there any difference in PR practitioners’ recognition and performance of professionalism, and job satisfaction?
To investigate the degree of open internal communication, survey questions are made up of internal communication oriented team, cooperative communication with other teams, and degree of information sharing. Also, 20 questions are used to confirm PR practitioners’ recognition and performance of professionalism. These 20 questions are re-designed with reference to 27 questions that had adjusted for Korea PR practitioners on the basis of Cameron, Sallot, and Lariscy’s study. With JDI which Smith etc. designed, job satisfaction will be measured.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows;
First, open internal communication has significant influence on PR practitioners’ performance of professionalism, and job satisfaction, not recognition of professionalism. At the same time, the degree of information sharing in the PR organization is founded out as a significant factor to decide open internal communication.
Second, in case of 8 statements of the 20 professional standards, PR practitioners’ job satisfaction is significantly affected by when they perform the professional standards concertedly which they recognize importantly. Even though significant results are founded out only in 8 statements, job satisfaction is decided subjectively depending on accordance between PR practitioners’ recognition and performance of Professionalism. That is, PR practitioners’ job satisfaction can be improved through building up the circumstance where their recognition of professionalism can be performed.
Lastly, according to PR practitioners’ organizations, they show differences in recognition and performance of professionalism; but there is no difference in PR practitioners’ job satisfaction.
In this study, the relationships among importance of internal communication, PR practitioners’ professionalism, and job satisfaction are founded out. These findings can be a tiny step to understand each other a little bit more between the academic world and the business world in the PR industry. Through this understanding, two world people will set up the definition and professionalism concerning PR industry with one voice.
