외국인직접투자의 진입유형별 생산성 격차와 국내기업으로의 생산성 파급효과 = Foreign Firm`s Entry Mode, Productivity and Spillover Effects

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 우리 경제성장률이 하락하면서 외국인직접투자를 적극 활용하여 경제의 활력을 제고할 필요성이 있다는 주장이 점증하고 있다. 이에 본고는 외투기업이 국내기업보다 생산성 측면에서 우월한지를 분석해보고, 생산성 차이가 존재한다면 외투기업으로부터 국내기업으로의 기술파급효과가 있는지를 분석하였다. 먼저 일인당 매출액 기준으로 외투기업이 국내기업보다 유의하게 우월한지를 분석하였다. 분석 기법으로는 패널분석과 함께 성향점수매칭(PSM)방법을 활용하였다. 외투기업이 국내에 진입하는 유형을 M&A와 Greenfield 등으로 구분하여 진입유형별로 다른 결과가 나타나는지 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 외투기업은 국내기업에 비해 일인당 매출액이 유의하게 많는 것으로 분석되었다. 제조업과 지식기반서비스업의 경우 진입유형과 무관하게 외투기업의 생산성이 국내기업보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 외투기업이 국내기업에 비해 일인당 매출액 측면에서 우월하다면 외투기업으로부터 국내기업으로 기술파급효과(spillover effect)가 존재하는지를 분석하였다. 기술파급효과를 측정하는데 있어 매출액을 기준으로 하여 산업별로 전체매출액에서 외투기업의 매출액 비중을 활용하였다. 동일산업내에서의 기술파급효과 존재 여부에 대한 분석 결과에서는 기술파급효과가 존재한다고 주장하기는 어려웠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examined the difference in productivity measured by per capita sales between foreign- and domestic-owned firms using a unique set of firm-level data in South Korea. The paper examined whether foreign firm`s productivity is higher than that of domestic firm. For empirical analysis, we developed panel data on the entire set of manufacturing and service enterprises in South Korea from 2000 to 2009. Besides the random effects model for panel analysis, the propensity score matching method was adopted to address the problem of sample selection bias. We studied whether productivity gaps are dependent on the entry mode. The results of empirical analysis showed that the productivity of foreign firm is significantly higher than that of domestic firm. In addition, we examined whether there are spillover effects from foreign-owned firms to domestic-owned firms. The results showed that we cannot say that there are spillover effects.
