공시적 통약불가능성의 개념과 양상 = 전문분야간 협력과 관련하여

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 통약불가능성의 개념을 고찰하되 특히 공시적(共時的) 통약불가능성의 개념을 조명하고 그것이 실제 학문적 소통의 상황에서 어떤 방식으로 나타날 수 있는지를 분석한다. 통약불가능성에 대한 기존의 논의는 과학 변동의 합리성과 결부된 통시적(通時的) 통약불가능성 문제에 집중되었지만 실제로 과학의 실천과 관련하여 더 중요한 문제는 공시적 통약불가능성의 문제다. 이 논문은 과학자 집단이 수행하는 연구 활동과 단일 과학자 집단의 성원들 상호간 그리고 상이한 전문가 집단 간의 의사소통에 통약불가능성이 어떤 형태로 구현되고 또 과학 활동에 영향을 미치는지를 개념적 차원에서 검토한다. 필자는 기존의 연구에서 큰 비중을 차지해 온 쿤의 통약불가능성 개념을 파이어아벤트의 개념과 비교하면서 통약불가능성이 어떻게 공시적 관계에 적용 가능한 개념으로 확장되는지 설명하고, 공시적 관계에서 나타나는 통약불가능성의 부정적-긍정적 양면을 고찰한다. 이는 전문분야 간 협력의 조건에 대한 철학적 고찰의 기초를 이룬다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

in this paper I investigate the notion of incommensurability, especially that of the synchronic modus. Seen in the context of the reality of scientific research and communication among the fields of specialization, synchronic incommensurability is a more serious problem (and threat!) than diachronic incommensurability which has prevailed in the philosophical discussion on the incommensurability since 1962. I analyse Paul Feyerabend"s notion of incommensurability in comparison with that of Thomas Kuhn, then discuss the negative and positive implications of the synchronic incommensurability with respect to the development of science. Synchronic incommensurability is an obstacle to efficient communication between domains of specialty which are meant to come to an interdisciplinary cooperation, but at the same time a necessary condition for the preservation of identity of a specialty, but at the same time an obstacle to efficient communication between various domains of specialty which are meant to come to an interdisciplinary cooperation.
