      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      English plays a significant role in global society as not only the method of communication but also the medium connecting countries. Among the functions of English, communication skill is regarded to be necessary. Recently, the school curriculum focuses on fluency rather than accuracy. As the necessity of using English is growing, most parents who believe that the regular education is not sufficient rely their children's education on private education. As a result, the private education expenditure is a burden to the parents.
      To recover these problems, the government suggest 'Afterschool program' that aims to mitigate the high private education fee and restore the truth of public education.
      Even though the number of participants in afterschool English program increases every year, there still have been some problems regarding the actual conditions of this program. Therefore, we need to examine the basic system for afterschool English program.
      This study has a purpose to examine the actual condition and problems in afterschool English programs by surveying students' satisfaction and parents' recognition in afterschool English programs.
      The result of this research can be summarized as following.
      First, students answered that one of the reasons for attending afterschool english program is persuasion by parents. The second reason is because of low cost. Parents choose this program due to burden of excessive private education cost.
      Second, due to the financial cause and the operation that is influenced by the number of students, instruction by achievement level is faced with some barriers. We need to take students' individual difference into account and reflect it on the class.
      Third, after participating in class, although they are likely to obtain interest in English, there was no change in confidence in English. We need to develop the way to give them confidence through tailored program to the needs of students.
      Fourth, it is shown that most students prefer English game and instruction based on computer. As seen in the theoretical backgrounds earlier, elementary school students can be able to obtain educational effects through the studying activities using movements and senses.
      Fifth, students responded that they are going to consistently attend afterschool English class. They are currently satisfied with the class.
      The results of surveying the parents who have a student participating in afterschool program are the following.
      Since 2009 the rate of the participation in afterschool program and the private education fee have been decreasing. Parents responded that they make their children participate in this program due to the low cost of afterschool program. Also, they recognized that afterschool program help to reduce the private education fee.
      As assimilating private education into the public education, it helps to restore trust of public education and also minimize the massive cost of private education for English. Moreover, through diversified programs it is expected to increase student's interest and confidence in English and attract voluntary participation from students.
