This study attempted to identify the paths in which the psychological characteristics such as depression and self-efficacy of single-parents living in poverty influence the language development and the social development of their children. For analysis, structural equation modeling was used. The findings are as follows; First, single parents`` psychological traits, depression and self-efficacy, had direct effect on their children`s language development. Second, the parents`` trait of self-efficacy also had direct effect on the children`s social development, whereas depression did not. Finally, in examining the paths in which the parents`` psychological traits influence their children`s language and social development, their parenting attitude was identified as an important mediating variable. More specifically, the effect of parents`` depression and self-efficacy on children`s development in both aspects was significantly mediated by their parenting attitude, These findings provide an empirical evidence that the family process model, which the researcher set out, the ecosystem perspective, and developmental perspective are feasible models to explain the effects of the single parents`s psychological characteristics on their children`s developments.
