The purpose of this study is to explore Dosan Ahn Chang-ho's educational thoughts and find practical implications of citizen participation education(by time and activity) through the foundation background and activities of the Young Korean Academy. For this purpose, this study was conducted focusing on historical document analysis based on Dosan Ahn Chang-ho's thoughts and educational activities of the Young Korean Academy.
The results of this study are summarized as follows:
First, citizen participation education should be conducted that goes beyond the nation and the state to the world.
Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and the Young Korean Academy emphasized education for the nation and the state that corresponded to the situation of the times through changes in education by time. As modern society develops, citizen participation education should also be provided in accordance with the changes of the times.
Global citizen participation education enables the community solidarity and the increase in a sense of belonging beyond the nation and the state by understanding universal values and cultures and improving community spirit. Also, through universal education, various economies, cultures, values, etc. of the world can be learned beyond a limited range.
This is education for the nation and the state, and it will lead to citizen participation education that is consistent with the goal achievement of the great cause through self-innovation and national enlightenment, which were valued by Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and the Young Korean Academy. And it will be an educational venue for realizing Dosan Ahn Chang-ho's educational thoughts, which include sincere learning, continuous practices, and progressive learning and study.
Second, education that extends to participation through basic strengthening should be conducted.
Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and the Young Korean Academy emphasized the enlightenment through the character training, not the restoration of sovereignty and national revival through force, even in the crisis of the state's existence. Based on this, modern society should provide citizen participation education for the right human formation and character training.
Education for upright human formation will restore the original human character, and become an important asset for promoting the growth and development of the nation and the state. Also, by establishing basic educational values, citizen participation education will be the basis for development.
Third, education to enhance the qualifications and capabilities of democratic citizens should be conducted.
Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and the Young Korean Academy emphasized youth education as the starting points to develop the qualifications and capabilities of democratic citizens. In order to resolve human loss caused by conflicts of ideological values and wars, education was used as a stepping stone for cultivating human resources, along with laying the foundation for national development.
In the reality that youth education in modern society has only been reduced to education for entrance examinations and success, through citizen participation education, internal and external education should be conducted to cultivate mature adolescents and develop their qualifications and capabilities as democratic citizens.
These activities, along with the efficiency enhancement of citizen participation education, will be the basis for fostering the masters of a future state and leading active citizen participation.
