A clinical study was undertaken on 191 cases of pregnancy-induced hypertension among 1478 cases of pregnant women who were admitted to Chungnam National University Hospital for a period of 3 years from June 1985 to May 1988.
In this paper, the annual trend, epidemiologic distribution, clinical and physical parameters of P.I.H. will be discussed.
The results obtained are as follows;
1. The incidence of P.I.H. was 12.9% of 1478 cases, and annual trend of P.I.H. showed no statistically significant difference.
2. The most prevalent age group was 25-29 years and the mean age of P.I.H. was 27.3±3.8, years.
3. According to parity, the higher frequency was noted in primiparous patient.
4. The most prevalent gestational age of the patient was 37-40 weeks.
5. As to monthly distribution, the most prevalent month was October and the most prevalent season was the autumn.
6. 36.6% of the patients showed the systolic pressure 160-179 mmHg and 43.3% of the patients showed the diastolic pressure 110-129 mmHg on admission.
7. The majority(72.1%) of the babies born to the P.I.H mother were delivered vaginally. The incidence of low birth weight infants(under 2500g) accounted for 59.6% and considered to be very high.
8. Among the associated diseases, anemia was 24 cases, twin pregnancy 9 cases, and ascites 8 cases etc.
9. On admission, average hemoglobin level was 11.62±2.38 gm% and significantly lower level of Hb was noticed in severe preeclamptic patient. The average platelet count was 253894 77239/ ㎣ and there was no statistically significant difference according to disease severity.
10. The average serum albumin level was 2.82±0.62 g/dl and decreased serum albumin level was noticed in the severe preeclamptic and eclamptic patients.
11. The serum uric acid level was elevated in relation with disease seventy and the mean level was 7.60±9.15 mg/dl.
12. The average value of serum GOT, GPT, BUN, Creatinine, Na, K, Cl was within nomal range according to the normal range during pregnancy.
