The experiment was performed to optimize cleaning effect on heat exchanger for optimizing fouling auto removal apparatus using cleaning ball. Through this study we got the following results. Lattice space of ball separator is allowed 6∼10.3mm in ranges of ball diameter are 15∼25mm and when mass flow of cooling water is 3.0m/sec.
We limit the range of velocity of flow 1.4∼2.6m/sec into ball separator to decide the mass flow of ball circulation pump. Balls were inputted immediately in case of velocities of flow are 2.4 and 2.6m/sec, balls were inputted smoothly in case of velocities of flow are 2:0 and 2.2m/sec, balls were inputted slowly, but they were not inputted less than 1.8m/s in case of velocities of flow are 1.8m/sec. when the velocity of flow is constant, pass time is decreased as a decreasing of cleaning ball diameter. When velocity of flow is 2.4m/sec, maximum ball diameter is 21.0mm in case of 17mm inner diameter. Average of pass time of balls is 1.15∼2.79sec depend on the velocity of flow and the size of balls.
As a result, an auto fouling elimination system using cleaning ball was more effective than existing mechanically cleaning system in the visual.
