This study investigate chorus coaching method using kodaly teaching method for useful middle school chorus class.
Nowadays, in the middle school class, special activity like chorus class takes two or three times for one month and it is very short time for learning activity class.
So, students are taking chorus class only by listening and repeating the music without sufficient musical experience about rhythm, melody, harmony, interval through chorus.
Accordingly, this study tries to remove this problem and make students to experience music in a short time music class by efficient chorus.
For this purpose, this study suggest gradational method for middle school chorus class level using kodaly chorus teaching method and investigate chorus coaching method and apply the real chorus class on the basis of this suggestion.
Chorus coaching contents are interval coaching, rhythm coaching, melody coaching, accord coaching, chorus coaching. Interval coaching's purpose is singing a song correctly by listening, feeling, noticing the interval relationship. Flying notation, scale ring, sound ladder, sound pillar, finger score was used for interval coaching.
Rhythm coaching starts from making students familiar with beat. While coaching students about reading rhythm, feeling tune, rhythm cannon and rhythm ostinato, they are growing and keeping their rhythm sense by hitting the rhythm with their hands, speaking oral sound, moving their body
Melody coaching tries to coach students sing a tone name correctly with kodaly's finger score, flying notation, moving drawing and tries to improve melody sense in their mind by inner listen study.
Accord coaching tries to get an accord matching chorus naturally by 3accord, long-short 3degree accord, discord, consonant interval and teached students to listen the sound of their friends sitting beside them.
Chorus coaching use the kodaly chorus sol-page program and tried to teach students make beautiful sound while listening other students sound and accord for singing responsory and antiphon, singing organum, singing ostinato, singing 2part, singing troll is adapted by degrees.
Fore and after questionnaire investigation was used to make this study for chorus coaching more useful.
In the fore questionnaire investigation, chorus class condition was analyzed by the investigation about chorus class's organization and operation, student's basic question about music. Kodaly teaching method was applied to these investigation and studied chorus coaching method.
Investigated coaching method was applied to the students. After class, questionnaire investigated whether there some difference before and after apply kodaly teaching method and necessity of application for kodaly teaching method. After analysis, conclusion was made for this study.
Short result of after questionnaire investigation about difference before and after appling kodaly teaching method are as follows:
1. Students who cannot read musical score can read and understand musical score when they sing a song.
2. They can get more self confidence for their sound than the past.
3. They can adjust their sound while listenign other student's sound.
4. They can feel accord of sound.
5. They can enjoy sing a song.
Generally, students show the positive reaction to chorus class using and they became have interest for the new coaching class method. Chorus class using kodaly teaching method need more teacher's effort than the student's effort. Although there are only few class time and wish to make students who start taking chorus class experience more music, kodaly teaching method will be very helpful for chorus class. I wish efficient coaching method for middle school chorus class studied more frequently.
