As the number of dual earning couples increases, and advance in information technology has been changing traditional working styles, the theme of keeping work-family balance is getting more attention from the business world as well as academic scholars. Business organizations are beginning to recognize importance of the issue of work-family balance to attract and keep talented people in this era of the "War for Talent".
Despite growing interest in the area of work-family interrelationship in abroad, there has been scant research effort in this area in Korean academic society. Particularly, in the field of HRM, work-family relationship has received little attention from the students, even though HRM practitioners are yearning for effective means to achieve meaningful resolution of work-family conflict among employees.
In this paper, I reviewed academic articles carried so far in at home and abroad, and suggest some research agenda concerning work-family balance so as to agitate HRM scholars' indifference in this very important social issue of work-family relationship. This review reports that work-family relationship has been studied negatively (work-family conflict) and positively(work-family enrichment) as well in recent years. There has also been growing tendency to build some theoretical models of work-family interconnection using cause-effect relationship rather than simple correlations among the variables in the two role areas- work and family.
Finally, this paper lists some research issues to be molded easily into research questions in the future study in this area.
