흉노 마구와 마차 = Xiongnu’s Harness and Carriage

국문 초록 (Abstract)

흉노인들에게 말은·원거리용 주요 이동수단이자, 전쟁에서는 핵심적인 무기로 활용되어 중요한 위치에 있다. 이러한 말의 중요도에 따라 몽골의 흉노 무덤의 발굴 출토품에서 상당수 비중을 馬具가 차지한다. 마구는 일반계층 소형 무덤과 소위 귀족계층 무덤이라 불리는 대형 무덤에서 모두 출토되며, 마차의 경우 주로 대형 무덤에서만 출토되는 특징이 있다.
무덤에서 온전히 출토된 마차들은 주로 의례 · 행사용으로 추정되는 화려한 마차들로 노용 올 20호묘, 골 모드 20호묘, 골 모드-Ⅱ 1호묘, 도르릭 나르스 1·2호묘에서 발견되었다. 二輪 바퀴 및 방형의 수레에 사람이 타거나 짐을 싣는 부분인 車箱과 그 위에 햇빛가리개인 車蓋가 씌운 것이 확인되었다.
이를 통해 흉노는 피장자와 더불어 마차를 매납하는 풍습이 존재한 것을 알 수 있다. 했던 것으로 관찰되며, 마차는 대부분 귀족계층 무덤에서 집중적으로 발견되는 흉노 사회의 중 상위계층에서 매우 유행했던 풍습인 것으로 이해된다. 한 기의 무덤에 한 대의 마차가 부장되는 경우가 대부분이나 골 모드 1호묘에서는 마차 두 대의 흔적이, 골 모드-Ⅱ1호묘에서는 온전한 한 대의 마차와 10여 대 분량의 청동, 철제 마차 부속이 발견된 바 있다. 골 모드-Ⅱ1호묘 출토 마차 부품 중 일각수를 닮은 신화적 동물은 무덤 주인을 대변하거나 씨족적 상징의 표현물으로 본다. 이를 통해 그간 귀족계층 무덤에서 출토된 마차들은 중국 한나라로부터 선물 받은 것으로 해석했지만 수레와 마차가 흉노 자체적으로 생산되었을 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

For the elderly, a horse is in an important position since it is a main means of transportation for a long distance and utilized as a key weapon in the war. According to the importance of the horse like this, harnesses take up a considerable proportion of the objects excavated from Xiongnu’s graves in Mongolia. Harnesses are excavated from both small graves for the general class and tombs called graves for the aristocratic class, while the carriages are excavated only from the tombs.
The carriages excavated intact from the tombs mostly are glamorous carriages presumed to be used for ceremonies and events, which have been discovered in No. 20 at Noyon-Uul, No. 20 at Gol. Mod, No. 1 at Gol. Mod- Ⅱ, and No. 2-4 at Duurlig Nars. In the squared wagon with two wheels, on which a person rode or a cargo was loaded and an awning, that is, a sunshade, covered on it, were found.
Through this, it is noted that there was a custom in which a carriage was buried with the buried in Xiongnu. Also, it is understood that burying a carriage was a custom very prevalent in the middle-to-upper class of the society of Xiongnu, most of which are intensively found in the graves of the aristocratic class. Mostly, one carriage is buried together in one grave; while in No. 1 at Gol. Mod, two carriages were found, and in No. 1 at Gol. Mod-Ⅱ, one intact carriage and bronze and iron carriage parts for about 10 carriages were found. Of the parts excavated from No. 1 at Gol. Mod-Ⅱ. In addition, the unicorn-like mythic animal represents the owner of the grave or is considered an object of the expression of the symbol of a clan. Through this, the carriages excavated from the graves of the aristocratic class were interpreted as those presented by the Han Dynasty of China; however, this study would suggest the possibility that wagons and carriages were produced by Xiongnu itself.
