정체성 위기의 국내 대학신문: 미국 대학신문과 공동체저널리즘 모델의 적용 가능성을 중심으로 = Looking forward to an alternative identity: Implications from Community Journalism model and U.S. college newspapers

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The college newspapers in Korea are allegedly faced with identity crisis. In contrast, some portions of those in America appear to enjoy their heydays in time of overall crisis in newspaper industry. This paper thus attempts to understand the plausible reasons for such a difference and then hopes to draw useful implications from American college newspapers. For this purpose, this paper first discussed `community journalism model` believed to have played a critical role in hundreds of thriving U.S. college papers. Then, this study contemplated ways to rejuvenate Korea`s college newspapers by comparing with those in America. In-depth interviews with reporters and professor-editors in those newspapers have been conducted to find out possible strategies. Research results showed that college papers in Korea failed to address critical needs including community-based information and opportunities for social networking. In addition, those stake-holders not only did lack passion for changes but also were filled with baseless fears of hyper-commercialization. The authors contend in this regard to launch independent model in America by adopting community journalism model as a theoretical blueprint.
