기독교 대학교 학생의 기독교사회복지실천 인식에 관한 질적 연구 = A Qualitative Study on Christian University Students’ Perceptions of Christian Social Work Practice

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 기독교 대학교 학생들이 기독교사회복지실천을 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 탐색함으로써, 신앙에 기반한 사회복지교육과 실천의 방향을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 자료는 2022년도 2학기 B대학교 사회복지학부에 개설된 ‘기독교 세계관’ 교과목을 수강한 대학생들 44명으로부터 수집되었다. 집단 토론과 반구조화 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하였으며, 수집된 자료는 귀납적 주제분석과 지속적 비교방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 질적 자료 분석결과, 총 5개의 범주, 19개의 주제, 71개의 의미가 도출되었다. 다섯가지 주요 범주는 첫째, 취약계층에 대한 공감, 둘째, 공동체 회복을 위한 노력, 셋째, 기독교사회복지사 정체성의 요소들, 넷째, 기독교 적 가치에 기반한 사회복지실천, 다섯째, 미래 기독교사회복지실천의 신앙적 원천 등이다.
이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 기독교적 공감 교육을 강화하고, 예수님의 공감의 본질과 실천적 요소를 훈련 과정에 통합할 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. 대학과 실천 현장은 공동체 회복을 위한 노력과 기독교 사회복지사 정체성 훈련을 체계화할 필요가 있으며, 여기에는 성경에 나타난 사회복지의 근거, 원리, 사례뿐 아니라 신뢰, 성실, 존중과 같은 덕목이 포함된다. 또한 본 연구는 기독교적 가치에 기반한 사회복지실천의 핵심 요소를 적용하되, 종교적 색채를 명시적으로 드러내지 않으면서도 포용적으로 실천할 수 있는 방안을 모색할 것을 제안하였다. 아울러 성경 말씀, 기도, 신앙적 교제와 활동, 신앙적 성찰을 포함하는 실제 프로그램을 개발하고, 이를 교회와의 협력을 통해 운영할 것을 제안하였다.

This qualitative study explores how students at a Christian university perceive Christian social work practice, aiming to inform the direction of faith-based social work education and practice. Data were collected from 44 undergraduate students enrolled in a “Christian Worldview” course offered by the Department of Social Welfare at B University during the second semester of 2022. Through group discussions and semi-structured interviews, qualitative data were gathered and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis and the constant comparative method.
The analysis of the qualitative data identified a total of five categories, nineteen themes, and seventy-one meaning units. The five main categories are as follows: (1) empathy toward socially marginalized groups, (2) efforts for community restoration, (3) components of Christian social worker identity, (4) social work practice grounded in Christian values, and (5) faith-based sources for future Christian social work practice.
Based on these findings, this study suggests that Christian empathy education should be strengthened and that the essence and practical elements of Jesus’s empathy should be incorporated into training processes. Universities and field practice settings need to systematize efforts for community restoration and training for Christian social worker identity, including the biblical foundations, principles, and examples of social welfare, as well as virtues such as trust, sincerity, and respect.
Furthermore, this study suggests applying the core elements of social work practice grounded in Christian values while seeking inclusive ways to practice them without explicitly emphasizing religious overtones. It also proposes developing practical programs that incorporate Scripture, prayer, faith-based fellowship and activities, and faith-based reflection, and operating these programs in cooperation with churches.
