All the while, the environment education of middle and high school has been dispersedly carried out through such subjects as geography, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science and ethics. Especially, the environment education of high school has been carried out mainly by geography subject among several dispersed subjects.
By the way, as a result of the sixth curriculum development in middle and high school, the environment subject as an independent selective subject appeared in the curriculum system, and the environment education department was newly established for the purpose of training environment teachers in colleges of education.
Accordingly, because several changes would happen to the status of existing geography subject and geography education department, it is necessary to find the countermeasures about those changes.
First, as the environment subject emerged in the middle and high school curriculum, the phenomenon of identity loss of geography education, of content duplicate between geography education curriculum and environment education one and of geography teacher's role lowering would appear. To make preparation against those latent phenomena, the compromise structure of curriculum between geography education and environment one must be developed, being faithful to the goals and the natures of the two subjects, and the departments and the associations of geography education must set up a counterplan so that geography teachers could be environment teachers.
Second, because the environment education department was newly established in colleges of education, the phenomenon of content duplicate between geography education curriculum and environment education one would appear, and this phenomenon would be followed by the encroachment of curriculum of geography education department by environment education department.
If the geography education should and could carry out the environment education, it would be necessary to rearrange rationally the relationships between geography education and environment one.
